Randy's Story
We moved from Texas to Oxnard in 1965. (Best move my Dad made.) As you can guess I started Oxnard High School in 1969 even though I didn’t live in the district so I could be in the Band with Mr. Sorenson. The counselor said I wasn’t college material so my primary focus was music at the expense of academics. After all why would I need things like math and physics. Shortly after graduation I bought a telescope which would change my life in many ways. I moved to the S.F. Bay Area 1978. Then to Chico to attend Chico State. (It was Chico State then.) I earned a BA in Astronomical Equipment Technology. I started Grad School and left when the money ran out in 1983.
I worked in research on ophthalmic instruments at Humphrey Instruments after college. Humphrey was bought several times and I ended up working at Stirling Software on the Kuiper Airborne Observatory at NASA Am...Expand for more
es Research Center. Stirling lost that contract so I moved into UNIX systems support and eventually became the IT manager for the UNIX based system at NASA. More stuff happened and the contract with NASA ended. I went back to grad school and attended Swinburne Institute of Technology to finish my graduate degree in Astronomy. I worked as a professor of Astronomy and Physics at community colleges for 15 years until I retired 3 years ago. Now I work in my machine shop and work on the House. (There are more projects than time.)
I have a wonderful marriage of 34 years. We have 4 fur kids, two dogs and two cats. I have no children other than the fur Kids. My wife has 2 adopted children. We have worked rescuing German Shepherd Dogs for about 20 years. We have also rescued a few cats. Love animal companions.
I’d love to here from anyone that is interested in conversing.
