Randy's Story

After HS I took engineering classes at Catonsville CC. In the summers, I worked at a place that manufactured circuit boards. After 2 years of that, I got a job at General Electric Co. in Columbia. It was really good money at the time and I still lived w/ my mom on Rockdale Ct. It was about that time I started to learn to fly. Yes, I've been a licensed pilot since 1980. My job at GE lasted only about 2.5 years, Jimmy Carter's recession finally did in my job there. I had a passion for flying and aviation in general. I still do to this day. I wanted to stay in the field so I applied to an Aviation Maintenance school in Frederick. Originally, I was put on a waiting list, so I took a job making automated bottle filling machinery in Baltimore. I just love making stuff! I was there only about 3-4 months before I got a call from the school in Frederick saying they had an opening for the upcoming semester. So I took it. I packed my bags and moved to Frederick MD in 1982. It was a 2 year program and went by pretty quick. I graduated 2nd in my class. So now I ...Expand for more
was a licensed aircraft mechaninc as well. While going to this school, I got a job at a place that made... guess? Circuit boards! After graduating, I looked around for jobs in aviation. But at that time, the industry just wasn't in good health. I sent out application after application, but was met with rejection after rejection. The owner of the circuit board shop I was working at made me an offer to work with him full time that I couldn't refuse. So I took it. I worked there for almost 15 years. I help the owner turn his 2-bit death-trap of a board shop into a state of the art Circuit board manufacturing facility. During that time I met my ex-wife. married, and had 2 beautiful girls, bought a house in Frederick. About the time I got divorced left the circuit board shop and I took a job with Mid-Atlantic Medical Services, (aka MAMSI), a health insurance company. There I managed the IT department. In 2003, they were bought out by UnitedHealthCare, whom I still work for today. Today I live in Walkersville, a town a couple miles north of Frederick.
