Randy's Story

Life After graduating, I attended Diablo Valley College (DVC), Pleasant Hill, Ca., and San Diego State University, studying Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration, respectively. I entered law enforcement as a school district police officer in San Diego in 1976 and entered federal law enforcement in 1979, as a civilian Special Agent with the U.S. Naval Investigative Service, now the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), transferring to the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI)in 1987, and retiring on 09/01/03. I have been married for 34 years, meeting my wife on a blind date at my fraternity in 1973. We married in 1976 and currently have two boys, ages 19 and 17. We have lived in Ohio since 1987, settling here after living in San Diego; Port Orchard, Washington; and Yuma, Arizona. Its great being able to enjoy the four seasons. I have played drums for over 48 years and intend to play Rock and Roll, Jazz, R&B, Blues, and whatever else that seeks my fancy. Military My military service began in September 1977 as a Candidate (Pay grade: E-5), Officer Candidate School, United States Marine Corps Reserve, Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA. I thought that I could start a law enforcement career in the military; however, discovered that I was considered a Rifle Platoon Command...Expand for more
er until I finished The Basic School following my commission. Although I spent one month, 16 days on active duty for training, it was a great experience and gave me confidence in knowing that I could have received a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the USMCR if I had decided to complete the training. I decided to Drop on Request (DOR) and was Honorably Discharged as a Private(E-1), because I knew that military service would not put me in the direction to the law enforcement career that I wanted to pursue. As it turned out, I served my country as a civilian federal law enforcement officer within the military criminal investigative organizations(NIS [NCIS now] and AFOSI), serving the United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, and the Untited States Air Force; and, to a limited extent, the United States Army. The last 22 years serving the military in this capacity has been very rewarding and I have grown to respect, admire, and Thank God for our dedicated men and women who are serving and have served in the United States military. I have never considered my brief time spent at U.S. Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA, as active duty, let alone, consider myself a former U.S. Marine; however, since I discovered that this time counts toward my retirement from civil service, I decided to add this military biography.
