Ray's Story

Thanks to a good recommendation from Mr. Bouchard, I managed to get accepted at UB where I changed majors three times in three semesters, played freshman football (as a walk-on), rugby with the Old Boys, but ultimately the Draft Board had me in their sights. So to beat the draft I enlisted in the USAF and spent most of my next four years at SAC HQ in Omaha, NE working in the AF Global Weather Central. he AF and often afforded me the opportunity to travel to technical conferences (once even to Amsterdam in the Netherlands), I was fortunate to retire early (before major layoffs would have put me on the street anyway). I now devote much of my time to the role of Coordinator for the Buffalo Zen Dharma Community, a local Zen Buddhist practice group. I also visit the Wende Correctional Facility to participate in a Zen Buddhist meditation group on a weekly basis, and lead meditation sessions at the Healing Waters Center for Yoga, Mindfulness and Healthy Living in East Aurora.
