Raymond C.'s Story
Life
Hey everyone! I graduated from West Leyden High School, Northlake, IL in 1982 and made a bit of a career out of college, attending Northern Illinois University off and on, finally earning a B.A. in Journalism in December, 1991. I was a member of the Huskie Marching Band and the All-University Concert Band, playing the tuba/sousaphone for both. In the interim I received an Associate of Arts from Triton College in 1986, and I also attended the first phase of FAA training at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (Oklahoma City) in the fall of 1987. I've been employed with Southwest Airlines since June, 1992, starting as a reservations sales agent at the Chicago Reservations Center. I transferred to Oklahoma City in 1999, and later that year promoted to Quality Assurance Supervisor. I'm still with Southwest and am now enjoying my current position as a Staffing Specialist at our HDQ in Dallas I've traveled extensively throughout the U.S., several cities in Canada, and also to London and Amsterdam. Among many other things, I enjoy music (I have an extensive CD collection... too many favorite artists to mention, although my current favorites are Garbage, Radiohead, Coldplay and Snow Patrol), movies (currently building a pretty decent DVD collection), pop culture, baseball (Go White Sox... all hail the 2005 World Series Champs!!!!!!), rollercoasters and thrill rides. I'm still single, enjoying life to the fullest, globetrotting every chance I get!
College
I ...Expand for more
definitely took the scenic route through college. I attended Northern Illinois University straight out of high school, and after 5 semesters I went to Triton College to get my grades back up. After 3 semesters there I earned an Associate of Arts degree, then re-entered NIU for one semester in the spring of 1987 and got back in good standing. While I was between schools, I took an aptitude test for air traffic control and scored high enough on it to qualify for the FAA introductory program. I went to the FAA Academy (Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center) in Oklahoma City in August, 1987 and attended the first phase of training (approx. 8 weeks). It was quite hectic and stressful, and I did not qualify for follow-on training, but it was a good experience nonetheless. After working full-time for a year, I returned to NIU in January of 1989, completed my studies in Journalism (with a minor in graphic arts/printing) and graduated (FINALLY!) with a BA in Journalism in December, 1991. I was also a "band dweeb" while at NIU, playing the tuba/sousaphone for both the Huskie Marching Band and All-University Concert Band. I was also active in the NI Guide program, which allowed me to contact new/incoming students and helped them move in and become familiar with NIU. My college career path took many twists and turns, but all things considered it was truly a rewarding experience and I'm glad I have that diploma (even more now that my student loans are FINALLY paid off!!!)!
