Raymond's Story

What to write here that will be interesting? In reading someone else's profile they mentioned high school crushes and teachers who inspired. My biggest crush was %%%%%%, I never had the courage to even think about asking her out. I only wish I knew if she even knew I even existed. The teacher(s) who inspired me the most, Morris, Mathern and Landers (Dean Morgan), two of those are math teachers. I was a poor student in high school, graduated with a whopping 1.84 GPA. I wish I could go back and do it again, but the past is the past and we can't go back. After graduating high school, I was working entry level jobs and decided one day that I was going back to college and I was going to become a teacher. After thinking about what I wanted to teach, I decided on junior high mathematics and started at Casper College in 1994. There I met maybe my best friend. I was at CC for two and half years at which time I transferred to Montana State University in Bozeman finishing my degree in Mathematics. Upon graduation from MSU, I accepted a position at Dawson County High School. It was a great entry experience to education. While there, I returned to college to finish my masters in Mathematics Education, no one would have predicted I would have earned a college degree, much less a masters. In 2005, my mother died and that really messed with me and put me into a tail spin. This, plus other things, caused me to leave DCHS in 2008 and accepting a position at Eastern Wyoming Colleg...Expand for more
e. I was teaching developmental mathematics and first year college classes. I taught there until 2016. Towards the end of my tenure at EWC, I returned to college to work on a doctorate degree, finishing that in 2017. One reason I left EWC was to be a Graduate Assistant at University of Wyoming but timing was not great and the state made UW cut 42million dollars at the same time. I finished my doctorate in Mathematics Education. In 2019, I accepted a position at Lake Superior State University teaching developmental mathematics. I love teaching this particular population and I connect well with them. I am starting my third year (2021). Covid really messed up things, but things are moving back to normal. Through all of this, I never got married. In fact, I think I missed a couple opportunities because I was hooked on someone else. I also never had children, so it is just me and my dog here in Michigan. I love it here in Michigan. I have started to give back through public service and enjoy those challenges in my life. So, while no one would have guessed I would ever go to college, much less would eventually get my doctorate. But, I believe that my experiences have made me the professor I am today and how well I connect with my students. If you remember me, and would like to connect with me my address is last name followed by initial of first name (all lower case) using Google's email system. Feel free to drop me a line, I would love to hear from some of you.
