Hi – Ray Overton here having just signed up on Classmates web site & so exploring contact & memory potentials.
A brief personal outline:
I attended King Edward VII Grammar School, Coalville, Leicesershire, U.K. from 1954 through to 1961 with my first year being in Griffydam before moving to the main school in Forest Road for the rest of the duration
I then moved on to undertake a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology from 1961 through to 1964
I had a brief spell of being a process technologist with Tate & Lyle in Silvertown, East London but found the scope too limited & inadequate in challenge & opportunity.
From January 1966 through to end October 2003, I worked for what started off as being ICI Dyestuffs Division based in Blackley, Manchester but moving in 1968 to Grangemouth, Stirlingshire which provided the home base for the rest of my career.

sourced) & to Syngenta - & thereafter to Avecia, Kemfine & Calachem before my enforced 60 years old age related retirement in October 2003.
My career was wide & varied from capital projects, process development, new technology introduction, business development & all related aspects including such as sourcing & financials. All this involved much worldwide travel & was rewarded quite benevolently in cash & upward movement on the management ladder.
On retirement, I moved immediately to live in & work from Shanghai running my own company along with a Chinese business partner. The main focus of the company was the development & sourcing of fine organic chemicals mainly for customers in the pharmaceutical & agrochemical businesses in the western world, mainly in Europe. All were dominated by contacts created in my latter ICI & derived years. I stayed with the company from 2003 through to 2015 when, at the age of 72 & after 51 years of continuous working, I decided to retire.
So, in early November 2015, I retired & moved to live permanently in the small township of Batu Ferringhi in Penang, northern Malaysia. Which is where you can continue to find me enjoying in full a fabulous retirement.
