Becki's Story
Don't really know where to start......probably the first time in history I've been at a loss for words. (I think I need some "emoticons" here heh-heh) Well, when my marriage failed, I stayed in California for a few more years. But after two more failed marriages (more emoticons...) I decided to come home to Oregon, to lick my wounds and heal a bit. Went to work for PGE, out at the Trojan nuclear plant, and worked there until it closed down ( not my fault...I SWEAR!!! ) . Then I worked for QWest, until they downsized (that was BEFORE they moved most of it to Colorado - again, not my fault ), and after that I couldn't find work...ANYWHERE! About that time, a friend who knew of my employment woes, suggested that I c'mon down to New Orleans and drown my sorrows in a Mardi Gras daquari !!! So, after pondering over her offer - for at least 3 1/2 seconds - I went to the world's biggest ( well, close to it, anyway!) block-party...and stayed for almost a year! Kidding about partyin...Expand for more
g that long (tho, I tried!), but after all the parades and bead-tossing ended, and I got to know the people and soak up what was REAL about New Orleans, I fell totally in love with that place. In fact, it was the first Mardi Gras after Katrina, so I wasn't expecting a lot - but, WOW!!! Those people have so much heart, and drive, and .....well, once again I'm at a loss for words. But I will always call it my "second home-toewn", and I can't wait to go back for a visit. But, I digress.....Actually, I stayed and went to work (?) there. Well, sort of. That's when all the financial problems were starting, and all I could find was grocery-checking at a Winn-Dixie. And they practically wanted ME to pay THEM for the job! That's mostly kidding, but they weren't doing any better than any of the other states, so I moved to Colorado to be close to my middle brother, and get to know his family - who I had never even met. And that's where I am now - until I can get back home to Oregon.
