Rebecca's Story
Life
Well, let's see...After graduating from Harding, I went on to college at Norwich Univ, Military College of Vermont. I took a commission as a US Coast Guard officer and was off to see the country. I spent 2 years in Juneau, Alaska; 3 years in Houston, Texas; and 2 years in Miami, Florida. During that 7 years I also got to visit such places as Yorktown, VA; Petaluma, CA; San Luis Obispo, CA, and Washington, DC. When I left Active Duty (AD), I returned to Norwich for a year and completed another degree to make myself more marketable for Physical Therapy (PT) school. Afterwards, I served 3 months temp AD in St Louis, MO before starting PT school in Cincinnati. I finished that in Dec 2001 and started working in Feb 2002. I'm enjoying my job and have bought a house. Would love to hear from friends, classmates, and co-workers I've met along the way.
College
Wow! My first college experience was not the ordinary one. I went to a military college and dealt with all the hub-bub of military discipline/training while trying to study for a degree. I made it with opportunities to further my leadership skills. I was then Commissioned as an officer in the US Coast Guard. I returned to Norwich after 7 years in the service and finished another degree in 1 year. ysical Therapy. I was accepted to the Univ. of Cincinnati the following fall session to be a part of the 1st class in its Master of Physical Therapy Program. I finished it in December, 2001.
Workplace
I can say that I've really only had 2 real full time jobs since graduating from Norwich Univ. the 1st time. With the 1st job, I was stationed in 3 different locations while I was an officer in the US Coast Guard. The locations were Juneau, Alaska; Houston, Texas; and Miami, Florida; (I was also on temporary Active Duty for 3 months in St Louis, MO, after the 2nd graduation from Norwich). My 2nd job came after I graduated with my Master's Degree from Univ of Cincinnati. I became a Physical Therapist. I've been enjoying the life of dealing with all the bells, whistles, tubes, and body functions involved in working in the acute care setting of a hospital physical therapist.
I did, however, hold other jobs while I was back in school. During my 2nd Norwich student career, I was also the Assistant Swim Coach for the same coach I had when I was there before. I also managed the Admissions Student Phone Bank where I hired, trained, & monitored the student workers that contacted prospective students. While I was at Univ of Cincinnati, I worked as Event Staff/Security for the Firstar Arena (now US Bank Arena) and for the Riverbend Music Center.
