Rebecca's Story
Life
Our former neighbors invited my sisters and I to a Mardi Gras party where I met my husband. He had recently moved to where we live at this time for work from the Twin Cities, and I moved here with him a year later. July, 2008 marked 20 years of wedded bliss! Our daughters keep us busy as they are involved with violin, clarinet, swimming, tennis, Girl Scouts and F.W. Friends at church. We have a four-year-old small dog, two geckos, and a Beta fish, the pet members of our family. I never dreamed I'd pay money for crickets in my life! Now it's a nearly weekly trip to the pet store. Most weeks it sounds like we're outdoors with the cricket chirping (until they're all eaten, that is!)
You may remember me as a "goodie two-shoes" in high school. Well, two years of college seemed to squelch that rep!
College
After two years at the College of St. Catherine, I worked for a few years before completing my B.A. in Business & Marketing at University of Sioux Falls, SD in 1995. While working in Admissions at a local seminary, I recruited...Expand for more
myself. I am a 1998 graduate of North American Baptist Seminary (Now is Sioux Falls Seminary) with my M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy. I returned to school in 2008 to intern at local hospital/behavioral health in the chaplaincy field.
Workplace
I have worked in the chemical dependency field, doing family, couple and individual counseling for 11 years. Working with people long-term with aftercare is the most rewarding for me. Now, working part-time I'm able to be a mother to my children, wife to my husband of 21 years, and employed doing what I enjoy most, helping people help themselves. I plan to continue to grow and learn as I age.
Relaxation is extremely important to maintain myself in this field of work. I try to exercise at least 3x ea week in the pool, and walk the dog daily in good weather. Playing board games, watching a silly movie and shopping are great ways to laugh and enjoy life!
From raising children I've learned a great deal of patience, how to better cope with feelings such as anger, and how to really enjoy life.
