Rebekah's Story

Life After 20 years as a classroom teacher and seemingly perpetual part-time graduate student, I finally obtained my doctorate in education in 1998. After a two-year sojourn to Ohio and a visiting professorship there, I am back down South again, hopefully for good. I love my job as assistant professor of education at Wingate University, a small liberal arts school near Charlotte, North Carolina. My husband Keith is a science teacher in a local middle school. Our son Daniel graduated in 2009 from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, in Filmmaking. He is presently a "Starving Artist" in WinstonSalme, NC, looking to relocate as opportunities in the film industry arise. My daughter Jessica lives in Atlanta and is vice -president of a health communications companmy. She and her husband Joe just presented us with our first grandbaby, Eva Mae. Keith and I stay busy with professional and church activities and are enjoying our empty nest and more time to get up to the mountains and to the beach and take more cruises (and of course to go to Atalanta to see the baby). I would love to hear from you! Send me a hi note! Becky School I graduated from Hahnville (Lousiana) High School in 1974. I completed by B.A. in Elementary Education as a commuter student at Nicholls State University (Harvard on the Bayou) in 1977. While teaching full-time I also earned my M.Ed. at Nicholls in 1981. After moving to Georgia, I taught school there and took licensure courses and earned a Specialist Degree in Curriculum Supervision in 1984 from Georgia Southern University. , I was among the first applicants and was the first graduate of the program, earning my Ed.D in 1998. Since then, I've been busy building my career as a professor, but I hope to soon have time to take more courses in literacy and/or religious studies. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the deck and add on a hot tub. My dream home would be comfortable. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to my church, then spend the rest on Travel, my grandkids and payinf iff bils so I can retire. My current age is 54. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be Ower the Hill. I was so completely wrong. I share my home with my husband of 28 years, which I find comfortable and satisfying. My first job was at HHS, where I got paid $17 a day to Substitute Teach. What I remember most about it is That I was onl ya couple of years older than the students I was teaching.
