Regina's Story
Life
Well, in the years since I graduated St. Luke's and Aquinas, I've been married, divorced and remarried to my soulmate no kids, three cats. I currently work for the State of Maine Fraud investigations .doing Food Stamp and MaineCare fraud. Very interesting and exciting. I also got my Masters in Criminal Justice and have MPA. I currently live in Westbrook, Maine and would love to hear from former Aquinites of the class of '74!
School
I think people most remember me as the "class weirdo" (There was one other person much weirder than me and I think we all know who we're talking about LOL) I basically was in my own world because the world I went home to was a lot worse than my fantasy world. I loved English, loved my English teacher Ms. Teirnan, who was the one person who understood me and gave me the nuturing and encouragement I never got at home. I hated math and couldn't understand why I had to study something that had no relevance in the world. (P.S. I'm in college now, taking math, the same thing I flunked three years in a row! But happily, I'm doing better than I did in high school...and it still has no relavance to today's world!)I also hated taking French (also something with no relevance to the world around me) and loved Italian, which I still speak to this day (albeit, badly). I was in every after school club imaginable (I ...Expand for more
hated going home). I was editor of the School Newspaper in my Senior year. I think everyone I went to school with would like me a whole lot better now (even though I still march to my own drum LOL).
College
I went back to school after being out for almost 30 years...I loved it and wish I had done this years ago. I got my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in 2005 and my Masters in Criminal Justice in 2007. I recently my MPA at Pace University I loved school life and participate in as many things as possible. I maintained a GPA of 3.7. (Not bad for someone who's father told her she was "too stupid" to go to college!!)
Workplace
After leaving Aquinas, I immediately went to work at Blue Shield (now known as Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield). I started as a Junior Claims Examiner and worked my way up to Assistant Supervisor and then Fraud Investigator. I was at EBCBS for 17 years. One of my fellow Aquinites, Antoinette (Toni) Woodburn worked with me for a while. After leaving Blue Cross, I took a year off and took a job with a small company for three and a half horrible months...then in 1993, I got a job with New York State with the Insurance Department. I work with the Insurance Frauds Bureau, doing Medical Fraud investigations. It's a living. At least I got a roof over my head a car and they can't fire you in Civil Service LOL LOL.
