Rena's Story

Life I graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1973 and married Zack Parker in 1977. Zack graduated from OCU the year prior to mine. I worked for Okla. State Dept. of Education as a case manager working with families who have children with special needs. I retired just before my 60th birthday. We have 2 children...son was born in 1980 and daughter is 1982. They both graduated from a private arts college in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We still live in Oklahoma City. Son was in San Francisco attending graduate school in photography and returned to OKC to pay off those college loans. He has his own oil and gas company working with landmen and land leases. Daughter graduated manga cum lade and was considering which graduate school to attend and in what area. She is currently back in OKC and taking a well-deserved break. She teaches yoga and has her own studio here in OKC. I was diagnosed with diabetes 5 years ago and lost enough weight to keep it under control with no meds. Yeah, me!! Actually was easier than I thought it would. I will post an after pic!! If you live in OKC or plan on visiting, come to the Red Cup Coffee shop on NW 31st off Classen and visit me. My family thinks I live there and they are mostly right. I am there most mornings! Update 12/5/2012 Retired from the state 2 years ago and loving retirement. Our son got married in Santa Fe in July. We are going back there...Expand for more
for the second time for Christmas. Our daughter is teaching yoga and getting ready to focus on pregnancy yoga classes and possibly move into a Douala. Very proud of both of them. Son has his own oil and gas business and doing well. School School was a mixed bag for me. I was the smart, overweight, red haired, left handed girl who talked a lot. My best friend was Peggy Epperson. We spent a lot of time together going to the library downtown and shopping at Brown's Dept. store and going to movies on the weekends. I loved school but was not terribly socially adept. Being an only child had it's advantages and also disadvantages. I do wish I had been able to graduate from Harding, but my senior year was a transition year for integration in OKC and I graduated from Northeast. It was a learning experience for me and for the most part I am glad I had the experience. Some of the best teachers I had were at Northeast. Just attended the first part of my 39th/40th High School Reunion! I almost did not attend as I was terrified to meet many of those kids that awed me. I attended the 10 reunion and swore never again. It felt too much like high school. Update 2/17/18 Our granddaughter (Juniper) was born Oct. 2016 here in OKC. Of course, she is the smartest child ever! :) I still love retirement and am happy to not have set plans everyday!
