Rene's Story
Life
I received my M. S. in Art therapy from Emporia State University (KS) in 1998. This is a similar degree to Clinical Psychology with a lot of coursework on how to facilitate art activities with individuals, groups and families. Since 2002 I have worked at Spanish Peaks Mental Health Center in Pueblo, CO. I live in a house in Colorado Springs with my dog and parrot. I took dance classes when I was a child up through high school but I really wanted a dance I could do as an adult. In 2000 I started studying Oriental Dance(AKA bellydance). It is based on the dances of the Middle East and North Africa. I teach classes and dance every weekend at a Morrocan restaurant. In 2005 I went to Egypt for a few weeks to study Oriental Dance and to see all the cool stuff there. Turkish man named Cem and I fell in love during our tour and I went back to visit him and meet his family over New Years 2007. I went back to visit him again summer 2007. I would really recommend a vacation to the southern coast of Turkey, it is so beautiful!
Cem came here in April and we are now married.
School
My social skills were not....good...luckily they have improved considerably. I probably hurt people's feelings unintentionally a lot, if you were one of them I am truely sorry. I was often swept up in my own world of feelings. My favorite teacher was my AP English Teacher Mr. Werner. And it would be cool to tell my old psychology teacher Mr. Mahaffey (sp?) someone actually went on to get a degree in what he was teaching. His honors class was more interesting than some of my undergrad. college psych. classes! If you know where either of those old teachers are...please contact me.
