Restita's Story
High school was such a great time! Since High School, I continued to pursue my passion in Karate, and ventured in studying several other arts and acquiring teaching credentials in Eskrima, Kajukenbo, Tai Chi, Qigong, and Wushu. After about 6 years of teaching through the Seattle Parks Dept and working for Bristol Myers Squibb as their Security Supervisor, I decided to take the plunge, quit my day job and open my own studio. I have since moved the studio twice to our current location in West Seattle. I've learned alot running a business....hard times, good times...but its all great! Two of my old classmates, Kathy McLaughlin and Gerilynn Oenning have their sons enrolled at my studio....what a small world!!
As any teacher would agree, the best way to improve one's own skills as a teacher, is to be a student...Expand for more
. So, as well as running the studio and actively practicing on my own, I find time to pursue two other martial arts: Iaido (Japanese sword drawing art) and Kyudo (Japanese Archery). It actually feels great to be the one being corrected, rather than always being the one the corrects other people!
I continued to live in my childhood home on Beacon Hill until the late 1980's, where I moved to West Seattle, then Rainier beach. In 1997 I moved in with my parents and my sister's new family in Renton. In 1999 I bought a condo elsewhere in Renton, having my mom live with me....my turn to take care of Mom to return the favor of taking care of me during my "angst years" :-) In 2007 I bought a house in Kent.
