Rhonda Whiteye:

CLASS OF 1988
Ridgetown, ON

Rhonda's Story

Life Since graduating high school 1988 I enrolled in the Law Enforcement program with Seneca College, King Campus, then dropped out in the spring. Just wasn't the direction I was to go I guess. So, I moved to London and lived with my older sister Charlene for about 5 months, then moved back home with my parents. In the summer of '89, I applied, and was accepted, into a training course that prepared us to work at Fabco Dresden or Ridgetown. It was while I was doing my on-site job training that I met Dennis March, from Thamesville. After being hired full time with Fabco Ridgetown, Dennis and I began dating and were married February 23, 1991. We lived in Ridgetown until November '92 and purchased a home in Highgate. In 1993 our daughter Deni was born, which my Mom named after her Dad. Two years later 1995, our son Hunter was born. Unfortunately, Dennis and I separated mid 1996, and at the same time I found out my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer again. So, September 1996 I quit Fabco and moved in with my parents to help take care of Mom. After Mom seemed to be getting better, me and the kids eventually moved to an apartment in Ridgetown, then to an apartment in Moraviantown and I thought it was time that I continued my education, and enrolled in the Native Community Support Worker Program, under the Traditional Aboriginal Healing Methods with St. Clair College in Chatham. I met a lot of people, made a lot of new friends, and gained many new experiences. While attending school full time I was also still helping to care for my Mom. Sadly though, Mom lost her fight and passed away March 1999 at home with us and other family by her side. It was a tough time for all of us as we struggled to cope and accept that she wasn't going to be physically here for us anymore. After taking time to adjust I wanted to continue my education. St. Clair College allowed me to finish my program and I graduated J...Expand for more
une 1999. I then applied to University of Windsor and was accepted into the Family and Social Relations honours program. September 1999 classes began. It was very exciting! July 2000 construction began on our new home, just around the corner from my Dad's. I decided to put school on hold for a bit and work. Then the need for knowledge kicked in, and since my home was not quite completely finished, moving to Windsor sounded like the best plan to finish my second year and move home in April to a finished house. So, my sisters, and our kids moved to a four bedroom house and hated every minute! We moved back home December 2001 into our, finally, finished home. I continued to work full time, and attend classes part time, and Deni and Hunter settled in great. Sadly though, Deni and Hunter lost their Dad just before Christmas 2004 in a car accident on his way home from work. Although their Dad and I weren't together, me and my family always considered him brother, son, and best friend. We all miss him, but we know he's with family now and still taking care of us here. I'm STILL trying to complete my education part time. Maybe by the end of 2007 I will finally be a university graduate, but I am working now in my chosen field part time, with CAS. I hope that I am a positive influence for my children so they will pursue their education to fullfil their dreams. Deni has a passion for figure skating. Her first skate competition she earned first place. She also loves to draw and hopes to one day work for Walt Disney. Playing ball is yet another sport she loves as well as and in her first year of high school she is a cheerleader. Hunter loves the ice too. He's been playing hockey since the age of 5 beginning in Bothwell, then on to Ridgetown. He has really earned his position as defenceman. Hunter, as well as his teachers, say he has potential towards a great career in law. He likes to argue that boy!
