Rhonda's Story

Life I’ve never reflected on my entire life and put it all into words so this is self-enlightening! I've done so much since graduating from Nathan Bedford Forrest HS in 78. I traveled Europe for a month, attended Weber State College in Ogden, Utah for a few semesters, then I met my husband, Paul. He was serving at Hill AFB, UT. We married 6 months later, 25 yrs ago, and life has been good for us. We moved back to FL and had 2 children. Adam who’s now 24 and buying his first home and Anne, 23, now married and she gave us a beautiful grandson in 2002. I have 2 stepsons. Chad 27 and Kevin 28.(All our boys have recently become engaged! <groan>) While my pre-graduation intentions were to go to school and "be something", I found that sharing life with someone and learning what the world had to offer was more my "thing”. I stayed home with my kids till they started school and then began volunteer work at a family support center in Italy. Soon after I started working part-time for AAFES. Since Paul was in the Air Force moving was inevitable, AAFES allowed me to go where he had to go. We traveled the world while living in Italy and Germany for 7 yrs. It was awesome. As an expatriate I attended the University of Maryland's European campus. Again, we moved so I didn't finish a degree. Paul transferred back to the U.S., which landed us in New Mexico, our last assignment. Paul retired in 1993 after 22 yrs. and I left AAFES. We moved "home", bought our first house, and started new careers near Tampa, Fla. He walked into a great job with a new company and I began working at Nutmeg Mills, Inc., a sports apparel manufacturer. What a super fun job! Vanity Fair eventually bought them out and the job wasn't as much fun. My 2 teens needed required mor...Expand for more
e guidance so in 1998 I quit and returned to being a stay at home Mom. During my hiatus, Paul had a brain aneurysm that ruptured. I assumed my wonderful family was never going to be the same and my best friend was leaving me for good, God had other plans! He recovered 95% after a few brain surgeries. That year my son graduated and started college. The next year my daughter graduated. That same year hubby’s company expanded and promoted him, transferring us to Dallas, TX. I needed a purpose in my "empty nest" so I went back to work at AAFES HQ. They were always a great company and took me back with open arms. I’ve since been promoted into a great position and work with fun people. I like the duties in my job (this year, LOL) and the mission we support. Last year my team saved $25 million for the company and to beat that makes my job a challenge! We are in constant support of our military and “We go where they go.” Paul is very apprehensive about me going to the Middle East and dismisses the notion when it comes up in conversation. I have enjoyed a whirlwind 25 years since graduating. I've seen a lot of the world, found a partner and best friend who knows what I want before I do, and children I am very proud of. Only one issue in my life. After all this time, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up? I’ve had an adventurous beginning to my life, healthy and happy kids, constant companionship. Did I mention my perfect, brilliant, wonderful grandson? Hobbies, I have many. Geocaching, love "computering"(web pages, graphics work, and music), I chat on Paltalk as Rondivoo, decorate my home and garden, play with my grandson, and travel as much and as far as I can! I would love to hear from old friends so drop me a line!
