Rick's Story
After high school, I worked at Cyrano's resturant as a waiter and manager until I went back to college. I continued to work at Cyrano's off and on as a waiter until I graduated Junior College.
I attended Forissant Valley Comunity College at night from 1974 - 1979 when I received my Associates Degree in Life Sciences. I met my wife Suzanne in 1975 and we were married in 1976. Suzanne is a grade school teacher and worked as a teacher at Childgrove Ellementary in University City until we moved to Texas in 1982.
In 1979, I transferred to Washington Universty in St. Louis were I received a Bachelor's Degree in Earth & Planetary Sciences (Geology) in 1981. I continued on in graduate school at Wash U and in the fall of 1982 received my Master's degree in Earth & Planetary Sciences with a specialty in Micro-Paleontology.
I began my professional career in 1982 at Mobil Oil in Dallas Texas as a Micro-Paleontologist / Biostratigrapher. I worked as a...Expand for more
Biostratigrapher for 11 years until 1993. My two sons, Timothy and Andrew were born in Dallas in 1985 and 1987, respectively. I had a two year assignment in the Planning department and that changed the direction of my career, heading into management at that time.
In the year 2000, Mobil and Exxon merged, forming ExxonMobil, where I worked in various supervisor and manager positions.
I retired after 30 years with ExxonMobil in 2012 and we purchased a historical home in the Silk Stocking Historical District on Galveston Island, Texas. Now we enjoy the island life and spend our time volunteering around the island but especially at Galveston Island state park where we lead beach, bay walks, kayak trips and are docents at the nature center.
My son Tim has his own business in Denver and my son Andrew is a Geologist (just like his old Dad) working at Marathon Oil in Houston.
My wife Suzanne and I will have been married 40 years this September.
