Richard's Story
Workplace
I started with Republic in 1965. Stayed with the company through all the turmoil as electronic technician and took early retirement in Dec. 1999. Worked for Crown ESA for a year, and started my own consulting business, The Industry Automater, in 2001. I work when I want and that can be quite often. I can make more now
in less time than I ever did at the mill. I like what I do, and I do it when I want to. Business slow down and
cost of insurance forced me back to work at Carmeuse Lime, in Chicago. I still get a few calls from Republic from time to time. I plan to keep working for as long as I can. I enjoy my job as electrical technician. Work
is not too hard, and the people are great.
Military
Loved Fort Knox(except for basic)....Expand for more
Worked at the old automotive school
there. It's all gone now. Loved Friedberg and Bad Neuheim. Hated Graf and Wieldflecken. Loved Marburg. Met a lot of German GI's and
local girls at the Club E there.
Ahh yess. good times in the Fulda
Gap too. Lots of sleet and snow on
alerts. Bravo Co. 3/32. Made E-5
and got out. Wish I'd stayed.
Home Life.
I've been married twice. The first wasn't to great, but it provided me with 4 great kids. 2 are mine, and 2 adopted. The second is with my sole mate, Connie. 3 more step children. You need a score card to keep track of all of them. Out of the 7, I have 9 grand children. Everyone gets along fine, surprisingly. We have 2 birds, 2 cats, and 1 dog. Love bass fishing, good restaurants, and good movies.
