Richard Brattain:  

I was able to finance my education by using my veterans’ education benefit and when that ended after my first year, I was able to get paid working in the law library at the law school. Upon my graduation in 1985 in which I graduated in the top half of my class. I became the first in my extended family to obtain a post graduate degree. After passing the California Bar, I began my legal career as attorney law as an associate attorney with a plaintiff's personal injury law firm in San Jose, California. At this time I started to develop a serious relationship with a woman named Susan Fong who I met at San Francisco State while we were students and was currently living with her family in Las Vegas, NV. Her family have been living in Las Vegas since the early 1950s. Her mother was the first Asian elementary school teacher in Las Vegas back in the early 1950s and she was also the first Asian in Nevada to win a statewide public office as Regent to the University of Nevada. Susan convinced me to move to Las Vegas. So in 1988, I studied and passed the Nevada bar and moved to Las Vegas where I practiced law with another plaintiff's law firm. In 1990 we got married. Several years later, I started my own law practice as a solo practitioner. I had the opportunity to brief and argue a case before the Nevada Supreme Court. Today, I am retired from active practice and currently living the good life.
