Ricky's Story

I was born in a little hick town with a four-letter word name - you know one of those towns in Oklahoma that barely shows on the map:) got ya, the name of the town is ENID. The hospital was a tiny hospital and not really a hospital, it was Saint Mary's Annex - a Catholic organization and a protestant being born there:) I lived there for 8 months and then with double pneumonia and a 102 degree fever, left for England for 2.5 years. In England I lived in Hunstanton, Gayton, & Burchington. While in England went on holiday through Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Scotland, & Ireland - all of this before I was 3 years old. We rode around in a 1923 Rolls Royce. What a trip. Del City, OK - 1956 - 1963 Epperly Heights Elementary School - Mustangs, 1963-1965 Kerr Junior High School - Eaglets. My Paternal Grandparents lived in El Reno, OK on US 81 just before the bridge over the tracks. My Grandfather worked for the Railroad but was born and raised in Archer City, TX. I reckon I brought the Clason name back home to TEXAS. My Maternal Grandparents lived in Kingfisher, OK. They started the Nazarene Church in Kingfisher by allowing the church to meet in a tent in their front yard every Sunday. Toepfer is a much respected name in Kingfisher as is the name of Nice. Durign my Mother's growing up years, there was a drug store in Kingfisher named Walton Drug Store. The funny part of all this is, who would dream a small town boy would grow up to be famous. Everybody has heard of the Walton's son - he was the founder of WAL-MART and Sam's Club. I had that figured out before the town of Kingfisher did. In November 1965 moved to Bangor, Maine - some people pronounce this as Bang-ER - what a laugh when it is pronounced as Ban-Goah and that's a fact Jack:) Just like Lawr-yeah or Ri-chahd which is why I went by Ricky while I was in Maine and since I had intended to ONLY view Maine sites, I signed up as Ricky on this. My name is actually Richard. I only spent 18 months in Maine - November 1965 through May 1976 - I would have loved to have stayed there but we all know how the military is. Bangor High was a fun time. I did 36 trips to the principals office that one almost school year and got kicked out 4 times but my parents talked the principal into letting me back in. Had to take my frustration out somewhere - home life stunk and even the preacher at the Nazarene church did not seem to care that much. He threatened to kick me out of church. I told him to go ahead and he chickened out because my parents wouldn't like it. I would have loved it. Seems daring people to carry out their threats does not work well. Bangor High was a blast. The one year I attended there, I would take a trip between the lockers and the wall. More than once I was late to class and had to get an admit slip. I was not alone - wish I could find her again and talk to her. Then there was Terri, Terri G., Ann, and Paul that I hung out with before school. Great friends that really tolerated a lot from me. Sorry about that Mi Amigos y Amigas. Throughout the school year, lunch was a favourite subject. I managed to pay for 1 egg salad sandwich while getting two tuna salad sandwiches (saved around 45 cents on that per day), one apple, and one ice cr...Expand for more
eam cup. I couldn't do that during the three months Dave and I spent in study hall for fighting in the cafeteria. We weren't really fighting, the gym and ROTC teachers misunderstood what was going on. Too bad I cannot remember all the names of those I hung out with in Maine. I would love to give them all a shout out. 1969 I graduated from Del City High School, Del City, OK (The Sooner State, the sooner you get out the better off you are). Definite LONER because I wouldn't give in to the jocks. Bernard P (head football & basketball jock) enjoyed throwing me into the lockers. I was in honour study hall senior year. One person said she would become an athletic supporter if the jocks would become music supporters. Lynda Clark had a great Mach I Stang with the genuine shaker scoop. We all skipped out and went riding around in her Stang. Sweet car! Got married in 1969 - still married. I have 2 daughters, 1 son-in-law, 2 grandsons, and 1 dog. My daughters have 2 cats each. Attended Bethany Nazarene College for almost 1 semester - got kicked out for being honest. It has changed its name to Southern Nazarene University which should have been Oklahoma International Nazarene College (OINC:) This college had 3 professors who were homosexual and got found out. They were fired and the president of SNU wrote letters to prospective employers of these men which kept them from getting jobs. What SNU said, OKC, Bethany, and all the other little hick joints did. I still get mail from this place. USAF - I enlisted 12 February 1973, I was medically retired - 5 October 1992. My Dad retired from the USAF August 1973, I got one day off from training to go to his retirement ceremony. I was at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, IL. I had six months active duty when he retired. He died in 1982, from Agent Orange induced Cancer. I was under-going an evaluation at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TEXAS. Enrolled at South Plains College, Levelland, TX in January 1994. Graduated May 1995 ASB - Information Systems. The first math class I took, the instructor had to redo his tests. The possible score on one test was 115 points, I scored 114. Enrolled at Texas Tech University in May 1995 and I graduated in December 1997 BBA - Management Information Systems. Texas Tech Univeristy Health Sciences Center, Business Office - Management Information Systems Specialist. RETIRED!!! 2003 Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a rough problem to have. With all I have dealt with, it is a wonder that I can function as well as I can. I don't want nor do I need sympathy. I am not a hero because all heroes fell on the battlefields of wars. So I do NOT need praise for going through what I have gone through. Many times in my life I should have died. Travelling cross-country with such a high fever, falling against a hot water pipe and burning half my face (you can see the scar on my left cheek), rhuematic fever, epilepsy, hepatitis A, falling into a huge water tank, sliding down the side of a cliff, a slip & fall in a store with slamming my head into the bottom of a shopping cart, - too many things to name but I survived. Some of the things I have survived, others have died from. I have had near death experiences - twice but I am still alive.
