Richard's Story
While teaching preparatory and then collegiate at SFCM, I completed my PhD at Stanford in Linguistics. Decided I didn't want to be a college prof., so I joined the US State Department to supervise their Japan and Korea training programs for US diplomats. d also in Korea. After two tours of duty there, I left the government to become a board director of two small companies in Tokyo -- doing international licensing of movie rights, sports team sponsorships, etc. Returned to Stanford in 1993, where I'm now directing two research centers in the School of Engineering (of course!). Do lots of traveling to Asia, but I love to play chamber music once in a while with friends.
