Richard's Story

Arrived at Parris Island on Friday, July 13, 1962. Member of platoon 244 also known as the "Johnny Reb" platoon. Went from there to ITR at Camp Geiger and from there to Sea School in Portsmouth, Virginia. Served aboard the USS Shangri-La for two years. After a short time at Camp Lejeune, I returned to Parris Island ...Expand for more
where I was in charge of a 7 man night crew processing new recruits arriving on the island. We typically processed about 500 recruits between the time our crew went on duty until we got off in the morning the following day. I would be happy to communicate with any old Marine Corps buddies.
