Richard's Story

CIS BS degree University of North Florida Masters in MIS Strayer University Washington D.C. AOL TW SR. System Admin I always wanted to be a archaeologist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a far fetched idea. As it turns out, they were correct. I blow off steam by taking a long run. The wildest thing I ever did at school was smoke. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a computer, cell phone, and coffee to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I derive my inspiration from such people like George Washington Carver who made his own path and when he hit star status stuck to his roots. I live in Martinsburg WV. I moved here after I received my degree in Computer Information Systems and started working in the DC area for AOL. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Brian Young, because I always had respect for him. I really get in to football and history. My biggest surprise was that I continued my education and did rather well. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the kitchen and add on a sun room. My dream home would be paid for. I've learned from my kids that life is short so enjoy as much of it as you can. The teacher I would love to see again would be the one I had in summer school (I can not remember his name though) when I was in middle school because that was the one teacher that actually taught me the value of reading. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to poor children to put towards their education, then spend the rest on my kids future, travel and a new hog. At UNF I joined Delta Sigma Pi a co-ed fraternity (of course) where I was the historian and VP. On our campus I spent most of my time at what was then known as " The Boat House". When I first got to the campus it looked very dry but the boat house did serve beer but it seemed the students feared how it would look. I broke those barriers for better or worse ;-) To be truly happy I would be traveling around the world coming up with new programs and algorithms to solve would issues with someone who enjoys what I enjoy. My current age is 37. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be contemplating retirement . I w...Expand for more
as so completely wrong.. Once my kids are in high school or college I'm going to go back to school and get my doctorate degree and through grants work on solving problems. What happened to my first crush? Well lets just say they name street signs after it (one way). I believe her name was Stephenie Maylo (or something like that) and this was like elementary school and she never spoke to me then or anytime after ;-) My best friend would tell you I'm crazy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a nice guy. I use to dress in jeans a t-shirt (with loud obnoxious sayings on it) and sneakers. I still wear jeans, t-shirts (little or no noise) and sneakers. I do enjoy a nice golf shirt and a good shoe. On rare occasions a suit and tie. What's the weirdest job you ever had? I would have to say SEVPRO. Where some of the clean up was interesting to say the least because they clean up after everything you can think of and I'll save you some of the nasty gory details. I share my home with my wife and kids, which I find crowded. I have one trophy which for placing second in wrestling for the Bears. I place second a lot because I had asthma back then. Now I collect medals from marathons and half marathons. You get one do-over. What do you do differently? Nothing... I say that because for everything that I hated that happened usually had a better payoff in the end. In 10 years, I hope to be more involved in development. I'm going to get there by developing my own applications. My oldest friend would be Doug Brown. We meet because we both liked to be out doors and ride dirt bikes. What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? Wow... Where to begin... 1. Clean cut 2. I have my masters degree 3. Married with children 4. I work in an office 5. I quit smoking 6. Clean cut lol My first job was at a farm, where I got paid like 40 dollars a week to tend to the cows. What I remember most about it is I enjoyed the hard work. One childhood memory I'll never forget would be the one winter my Dad was taking me home down Lakeport RD by the muck and there was a white out so we had to stop and pray no one hit us it was scary.
