Richard's Story

Life I'll try to make this brief. After Mt. Carmel, went to Bergen Catholic. THen to Rutgers for a BS in Ceramic Engineering. Worked for a year, didn't like it, so went back to Rutgers for a Masters in Ceramic Science. Married Betsy, have 2 children, Jeff, 29, and Jeanne, 27. Worked for Union Carbide at the Tarrytown, NY tech center til '86. Moved to Cleveland to the Union Carbide Advanced Ceramics group. Became a part owner in a buy-out, then sold out in 2003. Somewhere inbetween all this got my PhD from the University of Leoben, Austria, in Materials Science. Today I work for Laird Technologies as the Global Director of Technologies. We bought a farm in 1997, and I decided to try growing grapes. It went better than...Expand for more
expected, but selling grapes wasn't profitable enough for the time I had to spend. So then we took that to the next level, and became a fully licensed winery. We new make about 8000 bottles a year, of chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet franc, riesling, vignoles, and a few other varietals. You can check our website out at laleurevineyards dot com. We sell our wine primarily through the winery tasing room. I still try to find time for backpacking, snowboarding, hiking, and other outdoor activities. On my many trips to Asia, which are not much fun any longer, I like to read novels. I'm looking forward to retiring from my day job real soon to concentrate on other interests. Well, that's been my life so far in a nutshell. Rich
