Richard's Story
Life
Hi all. I started answering all the questions and stuff but I like this better. I started out at Red Bank High School, but later went to Monmouth Regional. After graduation I went to Monmouth College for a while. Ended up in the Army and made it a career. Retired after 21 and a half years in the southern New Hampshire area. Went back to school while on active duty and graduated from University of Maryland, (1981), and later finished a masters at Central Michigan University, (1988). I was married for about 20 years and we have two daughters who are now on their own and in college. My eldest spent last semester in Japan and wants to return when she graduates. My youngest is hoping to get into law school. Both my daughters attend the same school in central Vermont and that makes it a lot easier. I've been working in the auto industry as a sales manager at a local dealership. I was also teaching business, management, marketing and economics courses at one of the local colleges and enjoying it so much that I now do that exclusively. Never thought I'd end up a "professor". I've been frustrated by the rapidly diminishing "benefits" of my military retirement. I'm living in southern New Hampshire ...Expand for more
and enjoy the culture and sights of Boston and the other seaside cities of New England. I'm currently single and enjoy the freedom at least for the time being. I found this site the other day and was immediately fascinated with the prospect of being able to contact some of the people I grew up with. Hope this prompts some of those out there to drop a line or two and say hi. I dropped a few to others and will look forward to any responses that come my way. Take care all.
Military
I'm not going to indulge myself in a laundry list of accomplishments, etc. I'm retired after nearly 21 and 1/2 years of service. The several reasons which I consider as reasons why I chose to join and then to become a professional include but are not restricted to: civic duty and the opportunity to serve my country, the opportunities available for additional formal civilian and military education, and the opportunity to serve with extraordinary professionals at all levels and of all ranks. Let's face it, while reenlistment might provide some financial security for a few extra years, no one stays in the military for the money. There's obviously gotta be something else involved, That changes from soldier to soldier.
