Prostate Cancer awareness is critical to men in our age group. My father died of cancer after his prostate cancer was not detected until it was too late. I have had the simple PSA blood test every year since I was 40. Last year my PSA was elevated so I had a biopsy performed. They found cancer in only one sample and in only a small area of that. My chances for survival are very good because of early detection. To all my friends, take the time to get tested each year. It is simple and can save your life. And to all the wives, lovers, daughters, and sons out there, don't let the important men in your life ignore this. Make them start yearly testing at 40 if they have a family history of prostate cancer, and at 50 otherwise. The PSA blood test discovers the cancer long before the standard digital exam can locate it, and the earlier it is detected, the better their chances are.
After high school I moved to the gulf coast of Florida for where I lived for over 20 years. I was contracting out to various businesses and government agencies when work led me to Atlanta where I joined AT&T. I miss the gulf coast beaches, but go back to the St. Pete/Clearwater area as often as time allows. I try to visit Ohio when I can, but it's been less now that my parents are gone. I still enjoy every trip, espcially connecting with my old friends....Expand for more
Currently my work for AT&T is in the Enterprise Systems & Software Engineering group.
College
Going away to Florida College was my first real time away from home. It was a marvelous time and I fell in love with central Florida while there and never went back to Ohio to live after my second year. I would love to hear from any of my old classmates at any time. I should of course mention that C-Dorm's Suite 9 ruled while I was there! It was a great time and I miss my old friends a lot.
Workplace
I have had various jobs over the years. I exercised my entrepreneurial nature and concentrated on small start ups and technical sales positions for quite some time. To my surprise, I found out I was a good sales manager for high end technical equipment and sold a lot of my time as a networking consultant for many small companies in south Florida. I was the co-host of one of the nations first talk radio programs about computers for 2.5 years on WPLP in Pinellas Park. Finally in 96 I joined BellSouth (Now part of AT&T) after 2 years of working as a contractor for them acting as a project manager and subject matter expert on the deployment of engineering design systems over a 9 state region. Now, as part of the new AT&T I concentrate on internal development of software projects and deal with the SDLC processes that guide and control the softwares design, development, deployment, and maintenance. I look forward to new opportunities as part of a global communications company.
