Richard's Story

Life This has got to be the "Strangest" of times !! Can you believe that Cat Stevens, author of "Moon Shadow" and "Peace Train" is on the US Homeland Security's "Do Not Allow In Country" list?? Oh Well.... Its kinda strange driving by old McClellan - it looks like a prison now. I would guess our class of '73 was probably the last class to actually not mind going to school. Gee - that's where every one that was any one was!! December 19th, 1972 - the day they took ALL the photos for the school annual - was my birthday. So - I skipped !! That was the most boring birthday I can remember off hand. So when you look at the different groups I may have been a member, it will say, "and missing from picture...Richard Lewis" Maybe if I change my name to Cat Stevens I can be noticed more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Besides the military (Coast Guard) after McClellan, and then Fine Arts with the GI Bill, I've decided retirement is the best job I've ever had. That 6am wake-up was just too much. And I actually get much more satisfying work done without that time clock thing around. The economical side of it is fantastic. Since I don't drive to work - no problems with the car. Clothing lasts forever, it seems like. The trick to retiring at an early age is in self- obse...Expand for more
rvation. That is to say, choose the ten most important things you need for a year to exist, get those under control, and live by them for that year. You'll find your blood pressure goes down, your relationships are filled with friendship, and you discover that life is quite fun as long as you don't fall prey to fear of death and taxes. My Top Ten? 1. A roof over the head. 2. Utilities. 3. Communications. 4. Transportation. 5. Subsistence (thats food and drink) 6. Clothing 7. General Utensils (in and out door). 8. A minimum of 2 responsibilities (these are pets or people that depend on you for one reason or another). 9. An ability to create trade or barter (cash works best - but craft makes it easy). And 10. A couple of peccadilloes (look it up). As long as you can survive on these 10 - as I did and do, that time clock is ancient history. Of course, its not just as simple as simply stated. It does take a bit of "Yin" and "Yang" and it requires a divorce of some "socio-economical" norms that have been cram- med into our heads by all those returning WWII people that started this 'Baby Boom"ing population. If you get a chance - send me an email. I'll check this site out as often as possible until those "free" days run out.
