Richard's Story
Richard B. Loop (BHS â Class of 1964)
Commenced college at UW (Seattle) - 1965. Married in California - 1967. Transferred studies to California.
Graduated from San Jose State University 1969 (B.S. â Materials Science) & from The University of California, Berkeley 1971 (M.S. â Materials Science & Engineering).
Commenced professional career at Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Pittsburgh, PA - 1972. Transferred to Idaho Falls, ID - 1974. In Idaho Falls, I worked for Westinghouse, then EG&G Idaho, Inc. and finally the U.S. Department of Energy, all at The Idaho National Engineering Lab. Our two sons were born (1982 & 1985) in Idaho Falls.
During the last several years of my scientific career I volunteered as a Lay Chaplain at the Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. This led to my finally answering Godâs call to ordained ministry (first perceived while in High School);
I commenced Theological Studies in Austin, TX in Fall 1993
Ordained Deacon (6/95), then Pr...Expand for more
iest (12/95) in the Episcopal Church. Completed work for and received Master of Divinity Degree â 6/98.
Served two small Episcopal churches in Eastern Idaho - Fall 1995 through Summer 2002.
Marriage ended 1998 (deep sadness).
Remarried 2001 (great surprise & joy!). Acquired two additional adult offspring through this marriage.
Called to Grace Episcopal Church, Astoria, OR Summer 2002 where I served as Priest for ten years - until retirement in Summer 2012.
Currently retired in Astoria, OR though serving as part-time Vicar at the Episcopal Church on the Long Beach Peninsula in WA across the Columbia River from Astoria. My wife, Marilyn, who still has a few years until retirement, continues her employment at our local hospital. My responsibilities in house and yard have significantly increased and I camp, read and tend to other hobbies as time allows. We enjoy sharing in the lives of our four children; we also enjoy a total of four grandchildren (will there be more?).
