Richard's Story

Life Well where do I start. It's been almost 20 years since I was doing time at SFHS. I went to the 10yr reunion where I met up w/ many old friends. It was a nice time to catch up and I've kept in touch still w/ some via e-mail since then. I wish more people had e-mail so it would be easier to converse back and forth. I just realized that classmates blocked my info, nice people they are. From SFHS I joined the US Navy. I went into the nuclear operations field. I completed my training in Orlando FL and then went into operations training in Idaho Falls, ID. It was an experience. I got married to my wife Robin who went to Wheaton North. We then went from Idaho to Bremerton WA. There I spent 3 years on the USS California, a nuclear powered cruiser. After 3 years of that, I re-enlisted for a total tour of about 9 years. I went then to teach nuclear operations in Saratoga Springs NY. In NY I went back to school to earn my BS in Human Resources Mgt. While doing my "shore duty" tour of about 4.5 years, we had our 2 boys, Ricky and Jake. From there in 97, I had to make the call to make it a life career (20 years would have been coming up in march 09.... scary) or get out. The exonomy was good so I said I'm out of this, and to be candid I didn't get paid well at all for all the hours I put in. I called it a day and came back out into the real world. I was hired by Pfizer to sell medications in Bloomington IL. I was very successful in doing this and was promoted to move to St. Louis, my stay there was about 1 year and I did so well they had me move for "bigger things". After a year of covering 350 miles across the state of MO, I called it a day and joined Glaxo Wellcome. A year later, GSK. I continued in my specialty role, and just recently stepped back into a city field spot with no more travel. Driving 40k miles a year was getting old. Now I am nearly complete on my 2yr MBA program and should wrap up in March of 2009. It's been a real long battle to finish and I'm tired but finally I can see the end... and I've learned a lot of things that should help me going forward in my career. (I hope I'm still marketable :P) As far as hobbies, I tinker with my old 66 Buick GS and 98 Vette......Expand for more
the corvette is becoming more my favorite but its hard to walk away from the classic musclecars. I do a lot of fishing with my boys, and I've done more fishing now than I ever did as a child, I've learned a lot from my boys on areas to fish. Now they are 14 and 11, high school is here for my oldest and I'm starting to see the "end of the tunnel" on the boys and our lives changing quite rapidly. I am so glad the Whitesox finally won the championship.... Maybe the cubs will finally win one but the money is off the Sox and that's good enough for me. We also enjoy going to six flags which is 15 minutes away from us in St Louis and being able to go to a blues/cardinals or rams game in under 30 minutes. If you haven't visited St Louis, you are missing out. It's a great city that we have fallen in love with. It has everything you look for without the hassle of insane prices and crazy traffic jams Chicago folks are so used to. The only drawback out here is the pollen and heat where it can be 100' for weeks. Some things I've done since being out of SFHS: gone to the 2003 Superbowl and got to watch the Bucs win the bowl vs the Raiders, seeing Jerry Rice live was fun. Snowmobiling in the mountains of Sundance, UT was great and going in a hot air balloon in the mountains has to be one of the coolest things I've done. I've had 3 knee surgeries... I guess all those days of wrestling and baseball have caught up to me... No titanium yet but I think it's probably going to happen maybe at our 40th. Now I'm wrapping up my MBA night school program with the expectations to graduate in March of 2009. I'm sick in considering going forward for my 2nd master degree but right now I'm starting to feel that "senioritis" and it's just burning me out trying to work and do school and all the family things too. I've learned a lot but I think I may have picked up some gray hair along the way. Everything else kind of just is a blur. Kids growing up fast Jr high and High school, very scary where has the time gone? My body not as fit as it used to be, mortality is settiing in I guess. If anyone wants to drop me a line, send it to ricks66gs at yahoo dot com. Have a good one and GO BEARS! (Still not a Rams fan lol)
