Richard's Story
From 1954 through 1966, I became very involved with roller skating. I started out at the E. Providence Roller Rink, until it had to close because the I-195 construction ran directly over the rink. While there, I started earning the proficiency awards, end progressed into being one of the judges. After that rink closed, I joined the Portsmouth Figure & Dance Club in Portsmouth. That was where I partnered up with my Dance Partner, and we went on to competitions from local, state and regionals. While there, I met my wife, and my partner met her husband. Our skating career had to close out when my job took me to Conneticut, and my partner's husband's job took them to the oposite end of the state.
Upon graduation, my 1st jobs were in inspection & testing at companies in Warwick, Warren, and Fall River. In 1962, I gained an inspection supervisory position in Esmond, where that company ...Expand for more
manufactured safety products for the Military. That was my "initiation" into dealing with Government Contracting, which became my "specialty" right through to my retirement. From that job, I got a Quality Assurance Reps job with a DoD agency in CT., where I actually went into facilities doing Gov't Contracts, where I checked out the actual quality of the products being manufactured, and also audited their quality systems to the Gov't requirements. In 1970, I gained a job with a manufacturing facility in CT mainly because of my Gov't qualifications. My work was in Quality Engineering, and progressed through supervisory and staff positions, all in the Quality Group until my retirement in 2002, specializing in Gov't contracting, and acting as the liason with the many Gov't agencies.
I've missed my job and the terrific personnel I worked with, but am really enjoying my retirement years.
