Richard's Story

Have enjoyed walking/hiking with wife Joanne, William Taylor & Spurge Miller. ALL of them have been helpful with my rehab from battling the "Big C" - Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Currently I'm dealing with CKD - chronic kidney disease. Hey, did I win the lottery or something? Well, I can't say enough about William Taylor, who IS the greatest! What an organizer, and who else would assemble a treadmill for me? Who? Appreciated several emails from long-time friend Chris Baldwin, and cards from Bennett Stewart. Underwent the whipple operation - June '07. Sometimes I wonder whether something was left on the operating table or fell on the floor. My weight dipped down to 102 pounds during winter '08. I was looking like a walking skeleton! Weight is now almost a whopping 140 pounds in February '10. This was my biggest physical battle that I have ever faced, but I remain determined to never give up. Why surrender? Why quit? My wife would be so disappointed. Personal faith is a great help, no matter what the outcome! Have been on the comeback trail by teaching online during spring '09 - present: Searching & Researching on the Internet/Use of PowerPoint, HTML/Web Design, and Pro...Expand for more
gramming Concepts using the Python programming language. Naturally Survivor is one of my favorite TV shows. :>) Helped raise $100+ from my neighborhood when I completed the 2009 Delaware County Memorial Hospital Walkathon. Personal heroes: Lance Armstrong, Randy Pausch, and Alex (of Alex's Lemonade Stand) Took some fun trips this past year - (1) around PA's perimeter with Joanne, (2) down to Charleston, SC with Joanne, and (3) up to Quebec City and Montreal with a former colleague. The year before I took several trips: (1) Annapolis (harbor cruise) with wife & son, (2) Cape May (cycling), (3) Kutztown (enjoyed the competition at the Velodrome). Finally finished reviewing a chess book for a former teaching colleague - James Dautremont. For a while I frequented the Tri-State Chess Club in Ridley Park. Unfortunately took some beatings, but great fun and nothing as bad as chemo! Serve as the webmaster for Drexel Hill United Methodist Church. Past pastor's visits & prayers were helpful during my recovery. Received many cards from fellow church members, colleagues, and friends. Will never surrender, never give up, never lose hope, and will always keep the Faith!!
