Richard's Story

I am in the midst of a career change. Taking computer programming right now after concentrating on the arts for some time. Went to George Brown, Humber College, Did a bit at the Toronto Sun, did alot of floating around...worked in theatre and tried my hand at social activism. My story is pretty simple. Life didn't go as planned. But I found my purpose. I found my calling and who I am. I saw alot of things, harsh things, choices I made, choices others made that made the world a rotten place to live. But I found out I had the courage to face those things. And maybe just maybe if I did stay strong I could change the world in the process. Through this I have learned to appreciate others and be much more honest with myself. I have the most excellent friends anyone could want for though I don't have wealth or position, the kind people look up to. I will write and edit more if I get some positive feedback. I have become a bit of wordsmith over the years but I don't often apply those skillsets. Everything is so graphic and video driven these days. Content is considered so mundane and ignored unless it is accompanied by a 42 inch plasma screen and a $500.00 surround sound THX system - I think you get the point. Thanks for dropping in! oh btw..thanks to all for visiting ------------------------------------- Update Feb 9th,2009 Well hello all who visit my humble profile. Life is looking up. My computer programming is going fine and I am learning alot of new things. Preparing for another change of address. Also I am getting back into writing and illustrating as I had an experience that turned me off of doing Artwork. I had a teacher rip up everything I had worked for/looked forward to in an arts career. I guess I have discovered that Art isn't the only thing in life and my life didn't end when I quit drawing for awhile. I guess bad experiences can open up your mind to new possibilities if you give them a chance. I keep meaning to post art up on here somewhere but I never get around to it(guess I am to busy with the binary math). Hopefully that will be my next move. Add something to my profile thats visual. --------------------------- Update Mon.March 9th,2009 Well the cartooning is coming fast and strong now. I took up life drawing again and I am even better than before. I think the time away might have helped me gain new perspective. The editor for the paper is happy with my work (I hope..lol) and I pulled a 92% on my math midterm. I am now in the process of trying to build some websites but trying to do so much is hard at times. Life gets in the way. If your reading this it means you are following what's been happening and I appreciate you looking me up. ----------------------------- Update Sat. May 30th,2009 Second semester programming. I am so pitiful at problem solving but I found a wealth of information on the subject. Info I never thought existed. Thanks to all who signed my guestbook. eciate your stopping by during my lifes quest to become an artist and programming guru. Check me out on facebook. I post my art on there as well as myspace. I hope to launch a website with all my drawings and programming widgets in the next year. Who the heck invented the name "widget" anyways??? lol Update Thurs. June 25th, 2009 ------------------------------- just a quick update...thanks to everyone signing my guestbook. I expect to upgrade to gold at some point and maybe I will have a chance to correspond with a few of you... Thanks for dropping by and reading.. Update Tues. Jan 13, 2010 ------------------------- Another quickie update. Helping out my instructor by eventually assisting in building onto an existing structure for Sheridan College in Second Life, a virtual online world. Going to be submitting cartoons to the sun and star soon when I get off my duff and do it. Thanks for following. Update Wed. Jun 2, 2010 ------------------------------ Survived a move...got ripped off by EXECUTIVE MOVERS ..found out later they had an "F" rating with the better business bureau and they had ripped off many other people. Anyhow I am in my 3rd semester at Sheridan and I am receiving a GEN ED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD tonight. I also have gotten noticed by the College Mentoring Program and I might wind up mentoring people in the Counseling office. I am very happy about all this. Hopefully there will be more awards to come. Update Sat. Dec.4, 2010 ------------------------------ Life has been good...As of January I will be a peer mentor at Sheridan College in its Counseling Dept, a paid position I sorely needed and wanted. I have waited 5 years for this and its a real warm feeling. Not only that I got another magazine article published and that is a real achievement for me. When it comes to writing I am coming into my own. I am making plans to possibly continue towards a degree in computing. This is something I am so proud of...as I have fought a long time for real success and recognition. Update Fri June 1st, 2012 ------------------------------ Long time has passed since the last entry. Almost finished computer programming and moving into Systems Analysis...very challenging. I have moved over to work in the Accessible Learning Services Department...and its great to work to do. I am also on the scholarship of teaching and learning committee at Sheridan College. Its hard working with academics as my point of view is so different. Still working on my cartoons...and they are still being published..the Sheridan Travis Magazine tanked so i am not really doing anything more for them.. Going to be going into co-op soon...planning on taking some interesting internships in some medium sized reputable companies..want to work in the animation field...should be interesting if i ever get there..we will see..Taking off up north in July..and getting a car soon ...too...life is challenging but I am rising to that challenge..
