RICHARD's Story
In 1969, i married my wife Pat, from Jefferson. we have 2 boys, Tres, 58, co-founder of Voo Doo Doughnut and Zach 44. we lost our daughter at just 38 years old. in 1970 we were transferred to Denver from Portland. i figured a couple of years and then move back to The Rose City, but we fell in love with Denver, especially the 300+ days of sunshine. we spent 35 years in the Colo Mts. we had planned on retiring in Croatia, or Spain, but in 2006 we were at our place in Cabo and drove 3 hours north to La Paz BCS Mexico. we fell in love with the town. we got a realtor and spent 3 days looking at properties and bought a lot on a hill overlooking the city and the Bay of La Paz. just 1 block up from the beach. we built a very modern 4 bdrm, 4 bath hom...Expand for more
e with a pool, learned Spanish and became citizens of Mexico in 2009. we have traveled extensively to the mainland visiting 22 of the 32 states, by plane, train and bus. we love the people, the culture, the colors, languages and food but also how safe it is compared to the USA. also the cost of living is about 50% less. My main regret is we didn't do it 30 years earlier. we're celebrating 55 years of marriage in May 2024. we're both happy and healthy, except I lost sight in my right eye in 2020. But I get around pretty well and still am able to drive. i couldn't think of a better spot to live. 12 beautiful, white sand, turquoise water beaches within 20km. sunny almost every day and very little rain except Sept and Oct. we found Paradise!!
