Richard (Dick)'s Story
Life
Retired veterinarian, now living in Franklin, N.C (having moved there, permanently) with my Dobermann Pinscher, Gunda, my buddy. I'm a Widower with four grown children and four grandchildren. No more hurricanes---I hope. In past years I toured the Artic regions and lived on a lighthouse eight miles at sea, off Marathon, Fl. and later as a civilian, made numerous cruises with my wife to the Caribbean islands, Germany, the (then) Soviet Union and The Peoples Republic of China---all of which proved to me that the good old U.S. of A. is the best country in the world. Plan to tour the The states with the time I have left.
School
My biggest TEACHER crush was with Miss Alice Youmans, my 6B teacher. She left teaching to join the WAVES. (Remember the "big" war?) She promoted me to 7A as she thought that I was capable of doing the more advanced studies. I still have her picture---one of those postage stamp sized ones. I "think" that Ruth Watts, Bruce Allen --and one more made the cut also---but trying ...Expand for more
to remember something that transpired approximately 64 (?) years ago can become elusive.
I really enjoyed watching Wilbur Apgar, in his 7A class, wearing his horn rimmed glasses, doing those science experiments and his ongoing cackles.
Sure, I'd do everything over again---only I'd be a little smarter. In spite of all the mistakes that I've made, it's been a great , albeit, short run.
College
I received an Assoc. of Arts from St. Petersburg Jr. College in 1955; attended the U. of Florida for two years and received a Doctorate in Veterinary medicine from Auburn University in 1962.
Military (USCG)
Enlisted 09/12/50. Boot Camp, Cape May, N.J. Assigned to Sombrero Key Light House in Marathon, Fl . Assigned to WG68 Androsscogin in May '52. Discharged 09/12/53.
Present day
I'm living with my Doberman, Gundel. I take several cruises a year, taking my money from my 401K. The so-called Wall Street "experts" took 1/3+ of my retirement, so I'm grabbing some for myself. Can't plan on it being available later.
