Richard's Story
Life
Currently I am a professional pianist/vocalist/composer in the metropolitan Detroit area. I work as accompanist/vocal music assistant at Grosse Pointe South HS (one of the top HS vocal music programs in the United States, and as church musician (cantor/organist/director of music) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond, MI. Have served as festival and honors choir supervisor for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association. Also have provided music direction for HS, community, and semi-professional theatre productions in Metro Detroit. Always looking for opportunities to perform both classical and popular music for events. My greatest accomplishment was losing nearly 150 pounds about a year ago after being diagnosed with diabetes in May 2004 -- I was diagnosed on my birthd...Expand for more
ay, in the hospital. Have managed to successfully keep the weight off for one year as of June 2006. Amazingly I have led a much more exciting life as a diabetic than before -- since diagnosis I have traveled to Europe twice (including singing at the Vatican for Mass once), have visited landmarks of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Salzburg, played piano for an Austrian opera star now serving in the Austrian government in Vienna, have been on the Charles Bridge in Prague, and conducted my own arrangement of the Czech Republic national anthem at St. Nicholas Church in Old Town Square in Prague. Have visited a Nazi concentration camp (one of the most moving and emotional experiences of my life). My professional life has never been more successful than it is now -- with diabetes.
