Richard's Story
Life
Hello! I'm living in Riverside. Now retired, I worked as an industrial engineer for a local furniture manufacturer. My main duties were facility layouts, time studies, line balancing, bill of material creation/maintenance, value stream mapping, and processing of engineering change orders. My interests are: all the sciences (especially astronomy - I have a 10 inch Newtonian reflector), history, reading, hiking, running, cycling, birdwatching, aerial fireworks (I have helped set off a few professional displays), and target shooting (service rifle -M1 Garand). School
Spent 3 weeks in Skylark Elementary Kindergarten in 1963 - then sat out the rest of the year because I already read at a 2nd grade level. elementary school at Skylark from 1966-1970. 3rd grade teacher was Miss Archer, 4th grade teacher Mrs. McClain, 5th grade Miss Leary, 6th grade Miss Wood. Went to Hare Intermediate 1970-1972. Notable teachers were Mr. Howell, Mr. Kelly, Mrs. Songstad, Mrs. Hickman, Mr. Leialoha. Went to Rancho Alamitos High from 1972-1976. Notable teachers Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Mesa, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Wendt, Mr. Dancer, Mr. Reichardt. Went to Cypress College for 1 year 1976-1977, then dropped out for awhile. Resumed at Orange Coast College in 1981 while working full time. Major Engineering. Had some of the best times of my life there. Transferred to Long Beach State, majored in Engineering Technology. Favorite professors were Dr. Emanuel Jarasunas and Terri Frongia.
Career
Was working for O.C. Auto Trader when I finished school. I was hired as a proofreader, and when I left I was the Production Manager. Started my Engineering career at Krause's Furniture in Brea. Worked there 96 to 01. I worked for Ashley Furniture in Colton from 2002 until 2018.
