Although I moved to California during my senior year and did not graduate from EHS, I have always felt like EHS was/ is my high school. I graduated from the University of California, Irvine in June 1968 with a B.S. in Bilogical Science and a minor in Physical Science (which included math). I had always wanted to be a veterinarian and had worked for one for five years, when during my senior year, in fulfilling another requirement for graduation, I took a course in sociology. As UCI had opened just two years earlier there were no graduate students yet. The professor on the first day of class, asked if any of us wanted to do research for him at an elementary school, instead of having to attend classes, do papers, and take tests. I raised my hand and spent the next six months volunteering at a school three hours a week. Bottom line, I loved it. The principal asked if I would like to teach the next year. I was hired and spent the next forty-one years as an educator (30 as a teacher and 11 as a site administrator), retiring 6/30/08. I ran for the Board of Education, one of five candidates (two incumbants) for two seats. The city unidied our districts in 2012 and I chose to not run again.. I was drafted my first year of teaching.
