Rick's Story

Short, fat, tired and ugly is the way i respond when folks ask how i am. I see no reason to lie to folks when they can see the truth. I some times find it hard to believe i am the same guy who competed in Football, baseball, track and wrestling in Jr high and/or High school. The same guy who took up golf and tennis after graduation. The same guy who spent 20 years on the same championship softball team. The same guy who used to run from summer twin to the fairgrounds. I guess 30+ years of not taking care of injuries finally caught up with me. That and the inside guard rail at the speedway. It is funny how things work out. My interest in racing has been there since birth. I attended my first race as an infant and always thought i would compete. Then drifted away from the sport when my Dad quit competing only to return to the sport later in life. Things may not be as i would have liked them but i am so far still around and kicking and causing trouble while many of those i grew up with are not. I some what regret i didn't try to get to know my classmates at Kingsbury better. Being an ...Expand for more
old midtown boy i kept many of my Fairview friends when i moved to Kingsbury and never made a large number of friends. The few i did i cherish the time together. Most of my older friends know me well enough to not ask me any question unless they are prepared for the answer. I do not tell you what i think you want to hear. I tell it as it is. You may not like the answer but you did ask the question. I feel if a friend comes to you for answers that if you just sugar coat things and tell them what you think they want to hear. Then you are not being a real friend. A true friends tells the truth even if may not be want you want to hear. Please hear my warning, take care of any injuries you have and do not ignore them. It is depressing to have to watch others enjoy life and not be able to join them. Disabled due to back and knee injuries, a lot of activities i took for granted for years i know are unable to take part in. Simple items such as a short walk or jog, bowling or even playing nine holes at Overton Park. While i know others are worst off it still gets to be a bore at times.
