Richard's Story
Professional Life.. (so far)
Studied Aviation Maintenance at Wilson Tech (Deer Park) while at Walt Whitman HS and receivd my FAA Airframe Mech License upon graduating in 1981.
Got my FAA Powerplant Mech. License the following year.
Went to SUNY Farmingdale from 82-84 to pursue an aviation related degree. Got my private pilots license in Dec of '84.
NOTE: To one charming female Brookville E.S Alumnus: I will NEVER FORGET the one encounter we had at a Glen Cove wedding event back in early 1983. Somehow you remembered soo much about me despite the passing of 12 years. It haunts me til this day that I never took the opportunity to return the favor..
Transferred to St. Francis College in Fall of '84 and received my BS in Feb of '87.
Took some post grad classes in Aviation Mgmnt (15 credits) from 87-88 at LIU/Embry Riddle.
Worked in the aviation field from 1983 - 2000 doing (you name it) at JFK, LGA,& FRG airports such as, washing planes, loading/ offloading pax/ bags & cargo, arrivals, Customs/ Immigration, ticketing, check in, departures & aircraft fueling ops.
From '97 - '00 I was Assistant Chief of Crash Fire Rescue and Airport Ops Supv at Republic airport (FRG).
Since '00 I've been a Full Time Contract Weather Observer at LGA. During which time I've been pursuing NYS teacher certification as an Earth Science Teacher. (probably will stay put til the young'ns are all in school).
Social Activities-
From the Late 70's (at 17 y/o) into the mid 90's I frequented the following local NY establishments & Clubs. Perhaps we've unknowingly crossed paths at one of these locales over the past 3 decades.
(listed in roughly chronological order):
Tommy Tucker Lounge, The Salty Dog, The Artful Dodger, Wimbledons, Sgt Peppers Pub, Images, Cinnamons, The OBI, Rumrunners/Heartbeat, East Side Comedy Club, 56th Fighter Group, 231, Paris NY, Spit, 007, Camouflage, The Ritz, Danceteria, Cocos, The Rose & Thistle, Governors, The Malibu (My absolute Fave BTW). Most recently I've been taking in Jazz shows at The IMAC (one of the best NY area venues IMHO)
Family Life-
Been happily married since 1990, three kids (#1) d/d born in 2...Expand for more
001 (#2) d/s born in 2003. (#3) d/s born in 2006.
Lived in N.Baldwin since 2001, Long Beach ('93-'01), S.Ozone Pk Queens ('88 - '03), S.Huntington ('78 - '88).
My current hobbies - interests (outside of aviation & earth science) are r/c models, electronic gadgets, All things IT as well as collecting music (genres spanning NuWave80's WLIR 92.7, 70's-00's Dance, 60-80's Classic / Prog Rock / Top 40, Contemporary Jazz/Bebop, Classical & Baroque)
On a related musical note, I refer to this tune by Suzanne Vega (From 'The Pretty In Pink' Soundtrack Album) that speaks volumes about those of us who were low key and never called much attention to ourselves back in the day, but were always there...
If you want me
You can find me
Left of center
Off of the strip
In the outskirts
In the fringes
In the corner
Out of the grip
When they ask me
"What are you looking at?"
I always answer
"Nothing much" (not much)
I think they know that
I'm looking at them
I think they think
I must be out of touch
But I'm only
In the outskirts
And in the fringes
On the edge
And off the avenue
And if you want me
You can find me
Left of center
Wondering about you
I think that somehow
Somewhere inside of us
We must be similar
If not the same
So I continue
To be wanting you
Left of center
Against the grain
If you want me
You can find me
Left of center
Off of the strip
In the outskirts
In the fringes
In the corner
Out of the grip
When they ask me
"What are you looking at?"
I always answer
"Nothing much" (not much)
I think they know that
I'm looking at them
I think they think
I must be out of touch
But I'm only
In the outskirts
And in the fringes
On the edge
And off the avenue
And if you want me
You can find me
Left of center
Wondering about you
Wondering about you
FYI: Back in '07 I had the good fortune of reuniting with fellow WW H.S. alumni & Tulsa St. Gang Members Guy C., Chris W., Marie & Johnny D.
Thanks to all those who have either viewed this profile or signed my guestbook. Unfortunately, I do not have an 'upgraded' membership so as to know who you are.
Perhaps then I might see or hear from some of you folks in the near future.
Cheers! ;-)
