Rick's Story
Life continues to be very good to Marion (Marion Urban - Morris Hills HS '70) and me. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on December 2, 2022, have 3 children and 12 grandchildren and 2 granddaughters-in-law. In 2001 I retired with a full pension at my own request from Lucent Technologies after 31 years (AT&T and Lucent), in the IT, Real Estate and Finance Departments, and took a job as the Global Manager of Assets & Facilities at a startup company that soon became an international supplier of telecom products. After five years there, I decided to retire for good in 2006. But I couldn't sit still so I did some consulting for a couple years then took a year off. c pharmaceutical company in upstate NY. I retired again and finally for real, in December 2000. We recently left our log cabin on 26 acres in north central PA farm country. Where we moved after finally deciding to give up our other PA home a couple hours away and the part-time home in upstate NY close to where I was working, and we are now living in beautiful Southern Pines, North Carolina where we moved to be closer to our children and their families. I also retired as a Fire Commissioner in NJ after serving for 21 years and am a life member of a volunteer fire department there after more than 28 years of service. In 2006 I retired as Treasurer of our local village cemetery in NJ after doing that for 17 years. We've sold our 45 acres in southwestern VA to a good friend, which we had owned for 40 years planning to retire there and we're searching for mountain property for a "getaway place" in western North Carolina, to replace it.
