Rick's Story
Life:
I was raised on the South side of Jacksonville, Fl on Copper Circle East, near the Phillips Hwy Plaza, during the 50's and 60's. Some of the friends that lived in our neighborhood were David Hilbert, Hal Henderson, Mike Cayton, Donna Goodson, Sharon Diner, Charles Murray, Terry Jenkins and Geneva Rayburn. After the freeway came through and took so many homes with it, we moved to Pelican Rd on the corner of Kennerly. I attended Spring Park Elementary, Englewood Grammar, Florida Military School and Englewood HS (1964). My favorite place to go on a Friday or Saturday night was the South side Youth Center.
On the road to growing up, I went to Barber College and for a while was Jacksonville's youngest licensed Barber, I worked at Jim's Barber Shop on Spring Park and Emerson. During this time, I moved away from home and moved into Stancel's Country Club with Richard Reed and Clark Cheshire. There I met my wife, Micki who graduated from Terry Parker in 1961. We were married in May 1964. In August of 1965 we moved to Colorado Springs,Colorado and shortly after that I joined the Army where I served two and a half years. I went through basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, then on to Ft. Devens, MA for advanced training in communications. Then, I spent time at Torri Station, Okinawa and Vint Hill Farms, VA.
After returning to Colorado Springs, CO I attended community college and received my Associates Degree in Electronics. After working at several small shops, in 1978 I landed a job with Digital Equipment Corp. in Colorado Springs. Six years later DEC was going through some bad times so Micki and I moved on and wound up in Tucson, AZ. I accepted a job with Hughes Aircraft as a Test Engineer, my first engineering job. Several year...Expand for more
s later, GM bought Hughes, and in 1994, we were working under threat of a major layoff. I accepted a Field Engineering job with Teradyne, Inc (based in Boston) working out of my home. I traveled the U.S. extensively, servicing electronic functional and in-circuit test equipment. Fours years later, I was laid off and returned to GM-Hughes who was in the middle of a buy-out by Raytheon Missile Systems. My present job with Raytheon consists of programming and running in-circuit test equipment, verifying circuit card assemblies are built correctly before performing functional tests.
During all these years, Micki and I were not blessed with children, so we baby each other and have spoiled each other rotten! In our pleasure travels, we've camped, hiked, motorcycled and RV'd, seeing a lot of our nation. We took flying lessons then enjoyed commercial flying in first class seats while I worked for Teradyne. We became amateur Extra Class licensees and formed our own FCC amateur radio testing group in Tucson, which included commercial radiotelephone licensing. I now spend a lot of time with the computer, including the fun of downloading our favorite music and burning our own CD's, and Micki is heavily involved with line dancing... even I know a few steps.
I would love to hear from my friends, classmates, and neighbors, and anyone who might have any information. I have lost track with so many.
I am listed with Classmates under Englewood HS (class of 64) and have posted pictures. I regularly check EHS, Terry Parker, Bishop Kenny and Landon.
March 1, 2010 Retired from Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson.
I will add information here, from time to time, hope to talk with you soon!
