Rick's Story

Life My Spouse I met both my first and second wives on Mackinac Island Michigan. We each spent our college summers working there. My Job Semi-retired, working on entrepreneurship. Before that, my 50 year profession was information technology - software engineering, database design, project/team leader, change agent, and consultant. My start-ups: challenging, fun, intellectually challenging, freedom, I'm calling the shots. Helping companies and individuals discover and take full advantage of their hidden wealth. In my non-existent spare time I am active in Toastmasters Clubs and Toastmasters District Leadership (our District has almost 150 clubs). I've been serving as a trainer at our Toastmasters Leadership Institutes. I've also been serving as contest judge and chief judge at the Club, Area, Division, and District levels of competition. A few years ago I earned my Distinguished Toastmaster award (DTM) -- the highest level of individual achievement a Toastmaster can earn. I've also served as an Area Governor (shepherd for 7 clubs), Division Governor (managing 5 Area governors, 27 clubs), District Chief Judge, and Publicity/Marketing chair for the 2007 Region III Conference (which spanned about 1,000 Toastmasters clubs from 9 states). My Pets Current pets. June 30, 2025 I rescued 3 feral stray kittens, sisters from the same l...Expand for more
itter: Ash, Delenn, and Stormy. They were living in a nearby neighborhood and living off the land and neighbor handouts. They are sweethearts, full of rambunctious kitten energy and mischief, coupled with exhausted "crash and burn" naps. They've already bonded with me, and me with them. They've settled right in to their new forever home. All 3 are gray females - triplets. Vet estimates they were about 2 months old when I homed them. Lots of pictures on my personal Facebook page. Before that, in 2007 I adopted two grey and black tabby kittens from a local pet rescue -- Zipper and Darla -- brother and sister from the same litter. They were a handful! Wonderfully entertaining and they did a great job keeping each other occupied. Zipper lived for 16 years and was the most affectionate, loyal, sidekick pet I've EVER had, he died in 2023 from Kidney failure. Sister Darla was also a sweetheart but in her own different way. Prior to those two, I'd always loved dogs and never was a cat person. Those two cats permanently changed that!! Thanks to these two, I've devolved into the stereotypical "crazy old cat lady", though I prefer the terminology "Cat Daddy living in a Cat House". Before them, family dog "Sugar" for 16 years, a pound rescue female mutt and real sweetheart. My kids also had cats but they never really bonded with me.
