Ricka's Story
As expected (!), I moved to Israel after graduating from Cornell. At Hebrew University, I met my husband (Yoel Rak), who was a TA in an archaeology course that I took. I went on to do graduate work in linguistics at Tel Aviv University, and then we spent 5 years at UC Berkeley, where Yoel earned a doctorate in physical anthropology and where our two boys were born--Ariel (1975) and Benjamin (1978). Number three, daughter Carmi, was born after our return to Israel. get to use my French and Spanish occasionally. Have added Mandarin and Arabic to the list and would love to spend a few months in China or Taiwan improving my Mandarin, which presents lifelong learning challenges. Yoel is a professor of anatomy and physical anthropology at the medical school of Tel Aviv University. As of 2012, son Ariel is working in the energy field and living in Calgary, Canada, married with two kids; son Benjamin is an artist, working on a master of fine arts degree, and lives with his wife in Sydney, Australia; and Carmi, a geologist and environmental consultant, is starting to plan her upcoming wedding.
