Rick's Story
Life
I finished up my 10 year stint with the Coast Guard in 2000. I then started working for the Department of Defense as a contract specialist for the Missile Defense Agency in Arlington, VA and then a GS-14 Contracting Officer for the Pentagon Renovation and Construction Program Office. One of my proudest projects is the Pentagon Memorial (for 9/11) that is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2008 (see picture of me and Rummy at the groundbreaking in June 2006). I now work for a company called Stratecon as a contract specialist at the Marine Corps Systems Command in Quantico, VA. I basically buy Sniper Rifles, M16 rifles and 9mm pistols and parts. The best part of the job is that my commute is only 30 mins which is much less than my 75 minute commute I used to have.
I got married to my wife Lisa in 1994 and we have 3 kids, Kaitlin (2000), Alex (2002) and Jack (2005). We also have a wiener dog named Chili. We had a...Expand for more
6,000 sq ft house (Our Dream House) built in 2005 about 50 minutes south of Washington, DC (Fredericksburg, VA). It now looks like we'll be staying here for a while now so look us up if you are in town. To back track a little, after graduating from CHS I went to the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut. There I received a BS in Management and was captain of the swim team during my senior year. I graduated there 5/18/94 and got married to Lisa McLaughlin from Long Island, NY the very next day. From there I went to my first assignment as a Deck Watch Officer on a CG Cutter stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii from `94-96. My ship primarily patrolled the icy waters of the Bering Sea in Alaska performing Search and Rescue and enforcing Fishery Laws but we also got to pull in to San Diego, Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), Panama, Guatemala, Columbia and Russia. My last assignment had me as a Contract Specialist in Washington, DC for 4 years.
