Rick(y)'s Story
Life
After graduation I went to work for GTE as a telephone installer/repairman. During my almost 31 year career, I did about everything you can do at the phone company! I retired as a Class A Equipment Technician working in Central Offices all over the west coast. In my second year while installing the telephone for her parents, I met my future wife. They had just moved down from Buffalo, N.Y. Deb was ready to move back. Even though I was engaged to a gal in Minnesota, Deb & I were married 8 months later. And that was March 2nd 1974. Almost a lifetime ago! Deb was never able to have children, although we have half raised several that think of us as their second parents. Our children have always been four legged felines. We currently have two Sable Burmese. For someone that used to hate cats, I have certainly changed! My "keep me out of trouble" semi retirement jobs have all been primarily in home sales selling mostly Palm Harbor Homes., As you can see in my Work Bio. I guess I should have always been in sales... I had a computer business from 1984 until 2000 while also at GTE/Verizon. We retired in a housing community in Polk City, Fl. It is a community where my neighbors and myself all have an RV in our "Motorports" at...Expand for more
tached to our homes. It is a concept that has really caught on for avid RV'ers. We bought our lot 5 years before we retired. I never knew central Florida was so beautiful! I finally fully retired at the end of 2012, After getting bored I obtained my FL Class D Security License in April 2019. I worked 4 months protecting the Marijuana in Lakeland, and then to Security at Disney until Christmas Eve 2020. It turned out to be my dream job at the place Deb and I have loved & enjoyed since before we were married! I LOVED it!!! There I protected Mickey's cheese! Now that I think I have retired for the last time, we have started taking the motorhome to the mountains. Going to try and get reservations for 2-3 months each fall very soon! So many folks bought RV's during Covid anything near the mountains is booked 2 years in advance! Life is good!
Well, I am back to work, AGAIN! Even though I am always busy, I seem to need the camaraderie of work mates... I took a job 2 minutes from my home at the Lakeland R&L Carriers terminal.. 2 days a week (Th & Fr) from 1a to 8a I check the truck in and out from the Guard House. I do this for 7 hours nightly, 2 nights per week. PERFECT! And will give me a boatload of mountain money!!! Yeah!
