Rita's Story

Life I have three wonderful kids! Scott is now 24 years old,an RN, living in Ft. Walton Beach, Fl. He loves living at the beach and never comes home to see his mom. My daughter, Robin, is 22 a senior at Auburn University majoring in secondary math ed (I tried to talk her out of this one). My baby, Eric is 20 living with me going to Wallace Community College taking Industrial Electrial Technology. In case you have not heard, I am divorced from David! College In 1974 I went off to the big town of Marion Alabama. Michele Pierce was my roomie, I was serious and she was fun. I came home after 1 year to work at Peoples Bank & Trust. Many, many years later,(14) went back to school at Wallace, then Auburn University in Montogmery to get a BS in Elementary Ed. I graduated summa cum laude. ar at Knox Elementary School, Selma City Schools. The next year, I was hired by Dallas County Schools to teach second grade at Valley Grande Elementary School and stayed for three years. While I was teaching during the day, I went to school at Alabama State Univeristy at night to become a Library Media Specialist. I became the Library Media Specialist at J.E. Terry Elementary in Plantersville and Shiloh Elementary School in Sardis. These are small schools and state only allows 1/2 of a Librarian. I traveled from one end of the county to the other for these jobs. I liked the kids! The next year Southside High School was available so I took that job. I love my job! I really enjoy the kids. You know that is what education is all about, you do it for the kids. Contrary to what people think, the school is not that bad. Yes, we have our thugs, but what school doesn't. You just do not hear about it like you do Southside.
