Rita's Story
Life
After massive pulmonary emboli left me on the edge of death for several weeks at the end of 2006 beginning of 2007...and took 8-months to recover to the point I could return to work...I have renewed confidence in prayer. If it weren't for prayer and God's mercy & grace and His gift of medicine...I wouldn't be alive. I have a renewed faith in Jesus as my savior, I have greater peace, and a new perspective. I've been given the gift of life.
In 2007 I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary with my husband, Burt. I also celebrated my 20th year of working in the various media ministry outreaches from The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, CA.
My brother, Christopher, and I are closer than we have been since childhood...as we work together to provide care for my mother. In 2003, Chris moved back to the home we grew-up in to take care of our mother 24/7...while I oversee all of her financial and legal needs from my home in California. It is difficult ... but yet I am thankful for my brother and that we work well together to provide for our mother. In 2008 we had to move our mother into The Groves skilled nursing in Independence as her daily needs were more than Chris could provide by himself. It was a difficult transition for all.
All in all...I am thankful for what God has given me and know that in the hardest of times He carries me through.

* Worked for several KC radio stations between 1979 and 1985:
a) In the offices of (KYYS, WDAF, KMBZ, KMBR)
b) on air for KCNW Christian Radio.
* Music Director for Hyde Park Christian Church from 1981-1985.
* Moved to LA in 1985.
* Fall 1985 worked temp for the Price Is Right game show.
* 1985-1987 worked for KKLA Christian Radio.
* July 1987 married Burton Medall
* 1987 till present (2008) work for the media outreach ministry of The Church On The Way in the LA area (The Firstfoursquare Church of Van Nuys, CA):
a) producing Christian Radio and TV programs for Dr. Jack Hayford.
b) overseeing multiple donor software systems.
c) Operations Manager for Christian radio station KTLW.
* Sing on the church worship teams.
My best friend would tell you I'm warm, joy-filled, hard-working, & unpredictable, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as cool and reserved.
My first job was at Ting Ho Chinese Restaurant (it was across the street from Montgomery Wards), where I was a waitress. What I remember most about it is that in addition to Chinese food we served hambergers and French fries...and customers always asked me if I were Chinese. Close friends found humor in the fact that they could go to a CHINESE restaurant, order FRENCH fries and be served by an ITALIAN waitress.
