Rita's Story
Life
I'm currently living in Portland OR.
I moved to Corvallis OR in fall of 1973. I went Oregon State University where I studied music, literature and graduated with a BFA in painting and printmaking. I moved to Portland in 1983 and have been here since. I worked in social services for the past 17 years - mostly private- not for profit- sector. I currently work as the office manager in an alternative/integrative non-profic community health clinic - acupuncture, chinese herbs, naturopathic medicine, and therapeutic massage/soft tissue work.
I am blessed by a wealth of people who love and care about me and whom I get to love and care about.
I live alone in a cool little downtown Portland apt. I either bicycle, bus, or walk for transportation - which is very easy to do in Portland because it has a wonderful public transportation system and is extremely bike friendly.
I like to read - having been a literary snob in my earlier years I got over myself and am currently an avid Fantasy buff, rent dvd's of my favorite tv shows from the library, (Numb3rs, H...Expand for more
eroes, Angel, Buffy, Criminal Minds, Smallville, Supernatural, movies from netflix and play Adventure Quest mmo/rpg online. I do a litttle art-painting. Play my guitar and write songs. Do a bit of philosophical writing. I go to pow-wows and sweat lodge (inipi) ceremony, and the yearly Sundance ceremony. I volunteer at the Rose City Rollers - roller derby - on a regular basis - as well as a lot of other various events -mostly related to the Native community and Mercy and Wisdom Healing Center's(the clinic I work in) community education programs, and occasionally at some of the activities in PDX's chinatown - also for the clinic.
I have a 22 y/o son, Justin. He is a brilliant, talented young man. We have have an excellent relationship and I am so proud of the man he has become. He just moved to Key West in July to live with his dad for a while and experience life outside of portland. I encouraged the move hoping he will expand his frame of reference to the world. I miss hanging with him. He is now thinking about going to Europe to do his art and music.
