Rita's Story

OK, I guess it's time to update this page. Went to St. Charles in Lima, OH 1st - 8th grade. I wish more students from there would post here so I can connect with them. I'm glad that Mike Kemp took the time to post, he inspired me to write this update. During my years at St. Charles my parents divorced which made me feel like an outcast. I didn't tell many, but the ones I did tell told me my parents were going to hell...not good for a kid to hear. For the 9th grade I attended Lima Jr. High. The thing I remember most about that year was the first day of school. My first class was English and the teacher ask me to read something...I stood to read (that's the way we did it at St. Charles) and all the kids had a good laugh. The rest of the year went OK but it was hard to find good friends. The 10th grade I attended Lima Sr. High and was living with my Dad and stepmother. The summer between 10 & 11th grade we moved to a small town outside of Columbus. That's where I fell in love with accounting (but I am no accounting nerd). Mid year of the 11th grade we moved to Pompano Beach, FL. It was great being in HS and so close to the beach. There I met lots of great friends (most I have lost contact with and hope they see this post and contact me) and found Jesus. I attended Ranch, a group of kids that studied the Bible and had a great time! I graduated from PBHS in 1971. I worked the next year, saved a little money and headed to Evangel College in Springfield, MO. There I met more great friends (found them and we still email) and attended 3 years at EC until I ran out of money! Went back to Florida moved in with a great family from my church, worked for a bank, and attended night school and took lots of banking and accounting classes. The bank didn't pay that good so I took a part-time weekend job at the Boca Rato...Expand for more
n Hospital so I could afford my own place. I met my first husband at the hospital, he was the night security guard while he was finishing up college at FL. Atlantic as a geologist. We soon headed to Texas so he could work in the oil & gas industry. In TX I worked a few years with a property management company, got a divorce, and then took a job with a CPA firm. I was at the CPA firm for 7 years. During that time I met and married my current husband (married in 1987). I quit the CPA firm and opened my own Bookkeeping/Accounting Services company. In 1995 my son was born. It was great having a baby with a flexible schedule. In 2000 we decided it was time for a change and we move to the Seattle area and have been here ever since. I worked for a few companies when we moved here and then started my bookkeeping company here. (check out my web site at acctingsvcs with the w at the beginning and the c at the end). My son is now in 8th grade and I love my flexibility. I drop him off at school and pick him up. Besides my family and my company I am involved in Beta Sigma Phi, an International Women's Sorority and the PTA. I am part of a new PTSA that just started in our city. It's unique because it includes the entire city (public, private and home school parents & students) for those students with special needs. We felt a void for parents with kids on IEP's and 504 plans and knew they needed a place to find resources, info and empowerment. I am so proud of the web site (by me) so check it out at mseptsa with the w at the beginning and the org at the end. I got involved because my son is dyslexic. Well, that's my brief story for now. We plan on moving back to Texas or Florida when my son graduates from high school. I am leaning towards FL, my husband towards TX, so only time will tell. Maybe we will flip a coin!
